Chess is a recreational and competitive game played between two people. Chess is not just a game; it is an art, science and a mental sport. Many people play this game like a sport and competitions; others play it like an open mind because it helps to have a better think.
The game is played on a square board with 64 squares arranged in eight-by-eight squares. Each player controls sixteen pieces: a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns (one controls the white pieces and the other controls the black pieces). The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king, when the opponent’s king is under attack and there is no way to remove it from attack on the opponent next turn.
Chess is played on a square board of eight rows and eight columns of squares. The colors of the sixty-four squares are referred as “light squares” and “dark squares”. The chessboard is positioned with the light squares on the right side of each player, with each queen on its own color. White moves first. The colors are chosen either by a friendly agreement, by a game of chance or by a tournament director. The players alternate moving one piece at a time (with the exception of castling, when two pieces are moved simultaneously). Pieces are moved to either an unoccupied square, or one occupied by an opponent’s piece, capturing it and removing it from the game.
