OK, i have been looking for some chess games that works like in the first harry potter movie, (where the pieces actually attack each other when taken) and i only found one old game that’s similar and its called battle chess, but i was wandering if there was more like that and much newer and better looking and so on, cause that’s some cool sh*t, more brutal the better…. the only other game that is similar is “mortal kombat deception” for ps2 which was pretty sweet all round and on the on the “chess kombat”.

also for the pool games i was wandering if there is a great pool game that has really high graphics…
oh don’t get me wrong “Future Citizen of Forvik” i love the game its self but i would love to have action in it also, it makes it all that much more fun to me. :D

In Chess, if your king can’t move, do you lose?

September 8th, 2009
Desolater IV asked:

PLEASE READ–>

If your king is cornered as in it can not move, but it is not in check (next turn the opposing player can not take out your king unless you move it) then do you lose even though you don’t have to move your king.

(There is other pieces on the board)

Ex.

A knight can land in front of your king, a castle can land to the left side, and another castle can land to the right side so in theory your king can not move, but it is not in danger in any way.

Just a little quarrel I had with a friend while playing chess the other day.

Why is it sour grapes to point out cheating?

September 8th, 2009
dave23857 asked:

Apparently everyone thinks it amounts to bad sportsmanship and sour grapes if one complains of cheating. Why is that? Shouldnt the cheaters be the ones who are poor sports?

So if you are playing chess with someone and he tries to move a piece on the board without you looking…..and you end up losing the game…..are you saying it is sour grapes if you complain about how he cheated?

“How to Play Chess”

Chess is a recreational and competitive game played between two people. Chess is not just a game; it is an art, science and a mental sport. Many people play this game like a sport and competitions; others play it like an open mind because it helps to have a better think.
The game is played on a square board with 64 squares arranged in eight-by-eight squares. Each player controls sixteen pieces: a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns (one controls the white pieces and the other controls the black pieces). The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king, when the opponent’s king is under attack and there is no way to remove it from attack on the opponent next turn.
Chess is played on a square board of eight rows and eight columns of squares. The colors of the sixty-four squares are referred as “light squares” and “dark squares”. The chessboard is positioned with the light squares on the right side of each player, with each queen on its own color. White moves first. The colors are chosen either by a friendly agreement, by a game of chance or by a tournament director. The players alternate moving one piece at a time (with the exception of castling, when two pieces are moved simultaneously). Pieces are moved to either an unoccupied square, or one occupied by an opponent’s piece, capturing it and removing it from the game.

How to: Scoring Chess Position?

September 3rd, 2009
djd011 asked:

I have recently gotten back into playing chess daily and lately all my efforts not spent playing chess have been spent trying to improve my game.

I was reading up on some historical games and saw moves where players would trade capital pieces for position. I started to ask how one values, or scores, position. I have seen some questions where people ask others to evaluate chess positions. These posts got me wondering if there is a way to do this calculation by hand, or a source that has the code for such calculations done by computers. I would prefer to learn to do this by myself…lol

I really appreciate any help you all can offer.
Thank you,

Chess Problem?

August 29th, 2009
red scar asked:

This is not a school assignment. I ask this question for fun. I want to know if my answer is right.

There are different higher officials in chess, it includes Rooks, Knights, Bishops, Queen and King. Each piece has its own way of capturing a piece of the oponent and for each movement is a relation. In relating to functions, can you consider the moves of a knight a function?

A bishop has higher ranks than a knight. Do you think that it is because of the probability that a bishop can capture more enemies than a knight?

Is it true that if you do something for a total of 10,000 hours, you’re a master of it? ?

August 25th, 2009
Poyzin asked:

I read that if you do anything for 10,000 hours total, you are a master of it.

Concert Pianist, tennis player, chess master, swimmer, computer programmer, student of any hard science, learning a language, etc.

I’m not saying you’ll be the best in the world, but you’ll be the best you can ever be, and you’ll be exceptionally good at it.

Is this true, or just another myth?

P.S. I read it in a recent book called “Outliers”
